Birtwistle Cup 20/20 Week Four Report
The Week Four Round of Matches was hit by the weather with five of the schedule matches abandoned without a ball being bowled.
All three Thursday evening matches, (N2)Salesbury v Oswaldtwistle, (S1)Brinscall v Walkden and (S1)Little Lever v Farnworth Social Circle were joined by the Friday matches between (S2)Lostock Spitfires v Tonge and (N1)Earby v Ribblesdale Wanderers.
North Group One
Padiham v Foulridge
Padiham batted first and posted a score of 151-6, Cameron Thorne top scored with 31 one of five batsmen to make double figures.
In reply, Sarath Babu made 24 and Abrar Sarwan 27 not out as Foulridge ended on 122 all out. Joseph Edgar and Zander Van Tonder took three wickets each in a 29-run win for Padiham.
Read v Barnoldswick
Read batted first and despite 25 from opener Joe Halstead struggled for runs against accurate Barnoldswick bowling and needed 19 not out from Jack Wood to set a target of 121-9. Matt Cavanagh took 4-13 and Tariq Samiullah 3-18.
Owais Shah made 25 and Deron Greaves 21, but at 99-6 the result was in the balance; however Tariq Samiullah competed an all-round performance by making 35 not out as Barnoldswick got home by four wickets with five balls to spare.
Padiham are through to the Quarter Finals as they top the group unbeaten with four wins. Their final match against neighbours Read, will decide the group winners and a home Quarter Final.
However, a Padiham win together with a Barnoldswick win in their derby with Earby could see Barnoldswick overtake Read and end in the runners up spot.
North Group Two
Cherry Tree v Barrowford
Cherry Tree played Conference side Barrowford knowing they need a win to qualify for the Quarter finals.
They batted first and thanks to a 114 run third wicket partnership between Hudson Walshaw 49 and Ziyad Bhada 70 including 7 fours and 3 sixes posted a competitive total of 137-7. Karim Khan took 3-21.
In reply, opener Muhammed Hurraira made 59 and Saqid Wahad 53 as Barrowford passed their target with six wickets and more than three over to spare.
Salesbury top the Group but may need still need a win in their final fixture against Baxenden to stay on top.
Oswaldtwistle play Barrowford with the winners to qualify for the Quarter Finals.
South Group One
In the only match to beat the weather in this Group.
Atherton v Farnworth
Atherton batted first and made 126-7, Jamaine Bullen top scoring with 43. Anwar Ul Haq did most of the damage with 4-15.
Farnworth’s reply was dominated by Abdul Bangalzai who made 74 not out including 4 fours and 5 sixes, as Farnworth got home with one ball to spare ending on 127-4.
Farnworth Social Circle top the group and will remain top of the group if they beat Atherton in their final game, they could still be overtaken by Little Lever if they lose to Atherton and Little Lever beat Walkden.
South Group Two
Kearsley v Astley Bridge
Astley Bridge were bowled out for just 81, Zain Butt 19 and Bilal Patel made the only significant contributions but were both run out. Dhanraj Patel took 3-15.
Kearsley wasted no time in reaching their target, with openers Mohmedruhan Tirmizi 37 not out and Byron Giraudeaux 48 not out off just 7 overs.
Blackrod v Eagley
Blackrod batted first and thanks to opener Kavindu Kulasekara
‘s 75 not out including 8 fours and 1 six and late runs from Joseph Pryle 22 not out they posted a total of 141-3.
Eagley’s reply got off to a good start from open Jack Wainman with 39, Adeel Baig made 41 not but in a tense final over they closed on 137-7, four runs short of their target.
Unbeaten Blackrod lead the group will give have a Home Quarter Final tie.
Eagley host Kearsley with the winner joining Blackrod in the Quarter Finals as Group Runners Up.
